Meet Our Teachers
Tesia Miller, Studio Owner, Certified Pilates Instructor
Tesia found Pilates in her twenties, after years of injuries due to her love of extreme sports and a ‘go big or go home’ attitude that finally caught up with her. Initially, she sought out Pilates merely as a means of pain management. After realizing its value and effectiveness, Tesia knew she wanted to learn more.
In 2009, Tesia received her comprehensive teacher training certification with Body Arts and Sciences (BASI). After completing her certification process she actively sought out, and trained with teachers from different schools and backgrounds. Tesia quickly realized the variety of styles, levels, intensity, and proficiency that different schools had to offer. It was at this point that Tesia devoted herself to the world of Classical Pilates.
Tesia’s mantra is – “one is never done learning”. A strong dedication to education and an active practice is her focus. Tesia feels that continuing education and participation in workshops are of great importance to her ability as a teacher. In addition, having had multiple injuries including several car accidents in her lifetime. Tesia has first hand experience with, and understanding of pain and the arduous journey to recovery. Tesia responds to her clients needs from a place of innate empathy and keen intuition.
Tesia has had the honor and privilege of working with Cathy Zisman at The Pilates Studio of Carmel for eight wonderful years. Throughout these eight years, she has developed her skills working with clients who have MS, Parkinson’s disease, and a wide variety of other chronic and disabling conditions. Under Cathy’s guidance Tesia has grown to her full potential and is now spreading her wings.
As of October 2017, The Pilates Studio of Carmel officially and happily changed hands. Tesia assumed ownership of the studio and is excited and eager to continue teaching and running the studio with the same devotion to clients and dedication towards excellence The Pilates Studio of Carmel has always offered and delivered. Cathy and Tesia are still working together, and both are excited for the future of the studio as well as the future of Pilates in Carmel-by-the-Sea.
